WINDOWS XP
While reading the handout that you gave us, I experienced some opinions that I didn't quite expect. Being that I thought Windows XP was supposed to be the new and improved operating system, I just assumed that everyone thought it was better. Charles Carr, the author of the first review did not seem to be to fond of Windows XP. He said that he had a difficult time getting the XP to find his existing Windows 98SE network. He also said that he did not particularly like the way that the XP re-sized all of his icons, and the Desktop Folders. He mentioned how when Windows 95 came out, it was a little awkward at first too with the re-sizing of icons and Desktop Folders, but by the time Windows 98 came out, all the problems had been worked out. There are false accusations that Windows XP is faster and better, but the truth is that the XP operating system is not faster at all. In fact, it is not faster than Windows 98SE. Windows XP gives the false impression that it is faster because it displays the desktop right away, but the truth is that it boots up at about the same rate as Windows 98.
There are some pluses to the Windows XP operating system, that are not available to the Windows 98SE users. For example, zipping and unzipping files is transparent through Windows XP. On Windows XP, one can send a fax, play DVDs, radio stations, MP3s, WMAs, and many other audio/video formats. It is also easy to play, and copy your own CDs, not to mention that you can make your own videos using the Windows XP operating system. It is said that Windows XP has an exceptional graphics preview that recognizes and performs a variety of functions on many image formats.
So, should a person run out right now and buy Windows XP? My answer to that question would be no. I agree with Carr when he says to wait a few months. Windows XP is not going anywhere, so why not wait a little while to let the makers work out all the little "bugs" in the operating system so that when you do get it, it is near perfection. In reading this handout, I learned a lot about the opinions of Windows XP. While I assumed the public would praise this new operating system, I found out that not everyone thinks it is the best thing right now.
